Costco is Coming to The Pomp; Here’s Why It Matters for Pompano Beach Homeowners

August 05, 20252 min read

Big news just dropped for Pompano Beach—Costco is officially coming to The Pomp, one of the city's most exciting new developments. As someone who helps people buy, sell, and invest in this area, I can tell you firsthand: this is a game-changer for local homeowners.

District 5 Commissioner Darlene Smith confirmed the plans, noting that the new store will serve general shoppers while the existing Sample Road location will transition into a business center. If everything goes smoothly, doors could open as early as Fall 2027.

Why This Matters for Locals

Let’s be real, Costco is more than just a place to grab groceries in bulk. It’s a major convenience for families, professionals, and investors living in or around Pompano Beach. Whether you're shopping for household essentials, prepping for a barbecue, or even furnishing your home, having Costco minutes away can save you both time and money.

For homeowners in the area, this is a win. Amenities like Costco don’t just make daily life easier, they boost property values. Buyers are drawn to neighborhoods with established, in-demand retailers. So whether you're living here now or thinking about selling in the future, this adds long-term appeal to your location.

More Than Just Retail

The new Costco is part of the broader transformation happening at The Pomp, a 223-acre redevelopment of the former harness racetrack. The area already features TopGolf and Harrah’s Casino and is slated to include luxury residences, hotels, office space, restaurants, and more. This level of development signals strong growth for the area, and for those who own property here, it’s a clear indicator of rising demand.

Plus, it’s expected to bring 250–300 new jobs with solid pay starting at $20.50/hour and averaging around $26.77. That’s not just retail it’s sustainable employment for local residents.

Local Voices Were Heard

There was some back and forth about whether Publix or Costco would anchor the site. Ultimately, community input played a big role in the final decision. According to Commissioner Smith, about 80% of locals preferred Costco—and the developers listened.

What's Next?

Plans are expected to go through the city's review process starting in September, including landscape design, traffic planning, and compliance. If all stays on track, we’ll see the doors open in about two years.

If you're a current homeowner in Pompano Beach, this is just another reason to feel confident in your investment. And if you’re considering buying or selling in the area or just want to talk about what this means for your neighborhood, reach out. I’m always happy to walk you through how developments like this can impact your property value.
